Welcome to our guest house “Am Kräuterbichl”, which means “House at the little herb-hill“. Our log house is considered a “Bio-House”, meaning that it has been built with all natural materials, most of them massive wood, finished with all natural oils, and others, like hemp, for insulation. The structure is designed after the traditional Allgäu log house, with emphasize on energy efficiency and coziness.
The views from the house are truly breathtaking! One can see clearly past the pastures, hills, and forests, to the magnificent Alps of Germany and Austria! In keeping with our philosophy of living as much as possible a good and healthy lifestyle, the entire guest house and surrounding gardens are smoke free. The interior of the guest house has been thoughtfully and lovingly designed after the fashion of a typical Allgäu guest house – Cozy, warm and very inviting.
We offer four Ferienwohnungen (vacation apartment possibilities), each named after a local healing plant. Two of them have separate bedroom/living room, all have separate bathrooms w/showers, all have complete kitchens w/eat-in dining areas, Outside terraces or balconies, Satellite TV, DSL internet connections, and can accommodate 2-4 people comfortably.
The cost of one apartment per day is between 30.00 and 70.00 Euros, depending on the season and number of people. A wholesome, healthy and (mostly organic) breakfast made with locally produced ingredients is available (7.50 pp) in our cozy Breakfast Room which is especially situated in the front of the Guest House for the best possible view of the Alps. Its design is also typical for the area, complete with Kachelofen (Stone and Tile Wood Stove). Weather permitting; one can also sit on the outside terrace which is surrounded by lovely biological gardens.

We are situated on the edge of the small farming village of Untermühlegg, (directly translated: ”Mill on the lower edge”), which lies on a natural plateau between the villages of Sonthofen and Oberstdorf .
This area of Allgäu is still unspoiled and remains largely as it has for hundreds of years. Clean water, fresh, clear air with a scent of herbs and pines, rich, dark, fertile soil, unspoiled forests, meadows and creeks. The dairy that comes from the” happy cows” of this area (wait until you meet them!) is considered the best in the world, which surely has to do with the fact that they feed on what nature provides: rich grass, wildflowers and herbs, without chemical additions to fields and feed. Tradition proved itself right in the old ways of farming that are still practiced here, which can be seen and tasted in the results.

Oberallgäu is the most southern tip of Germany and is considered part of the Alps. One can hike to the highest part of the Alps, both in Germany and Austria from Untermühlegg.

Some highlights:
- Sauna with quiet room and shower in the house
- Cross –country-skiing tracks right at the house
- Downhill skiing 5 minutes away
- Ski storage room.
- Hiking and biking trails in all directions from the house
- Bicycle rentals can be arranged.
- Munich is approximately 2 hours away by auto or train. (The”DB” , the German
passenger train system is among the best and most efficient in the world.)
- One can make short trips to Switzerland, Austria, or Italy.
- The famous and magnificent Castle Neuschwanstein is approximately ¾ hour away.

Whether you choose to come in spring, summer, fall or winter, we will assist you in finding your way to enjoy life, - may this be in hiking, biking, skiing, swimming in clear lakes, walking through fileds or just sitting under a tree doing nothing. “The clocks go slower in Allgäu”, one says, and you will find out why.

Our intention for you, our special guests, is to offer the highest quality (together with the existing foundation of our pure natural environment) vacation – Coming back to a place of total nourishment for body, mind and spirit.
“Nature Heals”.
